Umbrella & Excess Liability for tower and telecom contractors
Additional limits stacked above GL, auto, and employers liability

Overview
Umbrella and excess liability policies provide limits above underlying GL, commercial auto, and employers liability. For telecom contractors, these are typically required in stacked layers reaching $5M to $10M depending on the turf vendor or tower owner. The umbrella must follow form without introducing new exclusions - particularly height exclusions not present in the underlying GL.
Why it matters for tower work
A single fatality claim in tower work can exceed $5M. Multi-fatality incidents (a gin pole failure or structural collapse) can exceed $20M. Umbrella limits are not optional - they represent the real limit of your financial exposure.
MSA relevance
Turf vendor MSAs typically require $5M umbrella minimum, some require $10M. The umbrella must include the hiring party as additional insured, must be primary and noncontributory, and must not contain height exclusions or other limitations that restrict coverage below the underlying GL.
